Gwen Schmidt
Executive Director

Gwen’s background with a local credit union gave her the inspiration to want to help small businesses from the beginning of their journey. She has a passion for Marketing and helping businesses spread the word of their successes. She is excited to help small businesses in her hometown from start to end.  Gwen has lived in Mission most of her life and loves the town and all it has to offer, has always enjoyed being involved in the community, from fundraising for local charities to being an active Executive Board member with the Mission Skating Club.  


Michele Blackwell
Business Analyst

Michele’s career in commercial lending started at a Credit Union where she worked in commercial lending and account management for many years. As the Business Analyst she provides loans to qualified applicants to help them get started or to expand their existing business. She enjoys the flexibility Community Futures offers clients and the potential to work with businesses that don’t fit the lending policies of chartered banks and credit unions, particularly if they have a great idea, a viable business plan, and the dedication to carry it out.


Jeanette Calderone
Operations Manager

As the Operations Manager, Jeanette provides administrative support to the Community Futures North Fraser team and is responsible for day-to-day operations within the office. Her background is over twenty years at a local credit union in a variety of administrative roles. As a local, born and raised in Mission, Jeanette is excited to be supporting her hometown and helping to promote economic development in all the communities served by Community Futures North Fraser. She loves everything outdoors from hiking to paddle boarding.


Paige Hetherington
Marketing Coordinator

Paige’s creative spirit and admiration for all things digital brought her to Community Futures North Fraser in the summer of 2021. As the Marketing Coordinator, she is responsible for our content creation, brand awareness, and campaign designs across all of our social media platforms. Paige has a passion for finding innovative solutions and implementing graphic design in her marketing campaigns. In her free time, you can find her snowboarding on Sasquatch Mountain or practicing various styles of photography.


Derek Hansom
Chilliwack, Recovery Advisor,
Rural Business and Community Recovery (RBCR) Program

In Partnership with Stó:lō Community Futures, we are pleased to introduce Derek Hansom as part of the Rural Business and Community Recovery (RBCR) Program. Derek has spent the last 20 years working in nonprofit organizations. Several years of this were centered on engaging Aboriginal people and communities in restructuring child and family services. Derek also spent many years working with a delegated aboriginal agency in a variety of roles. Following the start of his MBA schooling in 2014, he joined Coast Educational Development and Research, allowing him to continue his passion to work and focus on individual and community development through education, training, and employment. Most recently, Derek worked with the Regional Chief of BC supporting the Economic Development portfolio on the policy team at BC Assembly of First Nations. 

His recent venture is a consulting company, Unceded Management Services, which offers a range of organizations and management support to clients. He is excited to work with SCF and CF North Fraser on this much-needed role helping both indigenous and non-indigenous businesses in need.
