Meet Our Board

All Community Futures organizations are guided by a volunteer Board of Directors composed of local business people who bring with them extensive knowledge and experience of the area’s economy. Our Board members represent our region’s population and main economic sectors. Their role is to establish our organization’s priorities, monitor our performance, and answer to key stakeholders. The Directors are selected by nomination and vote by the current Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) The public are encouraged to attend the AGM, and can download an information package if interested in joining our board. The goal of the Community Futures North Fraser’s Board of Directors is to seek representation from across the region it serves.

The term of each elected Board of Director is one years, with a maximum of nine continuous terms served.

Current Board of Directors:

Heather O’Coin, Mission, Commercial Lender,
Heather’s works for Aldergrove Credit Union and has been with the Credit Union system for the last 17 years helping small businesses achieve their goals. She moved to the Fraser Valley in 2017 and before that spent her life in the South Okanagan. Heather has always enjoyed being involved in the community, from fundraising for local charities. Heather is happy to be on the board of Community Futures as it aligns with her passion to help small business and being part of the business community and currently is our Chairperson. In her spare time, Heather enjoys spending time with her family camping, biking and travelling.
Manny Deol, Mission, Real Estate Agent,
Vice Chair
Born and raised in Mission, Manny Deol has been a professional Real Estate Agent and Residential Builder since 2010. As a local resident and realtor Manny is passionate about the entrepreneurial spirit, small businesses, and the growth and development of Mission which has translated into his time volunteering for many programs including being a Director of Community Futures. He has been on our Board of Directors since 2013 and is our past Chair. Manny also dedicates his time as a director at the Mission Chamber of Commerce and sits on their Government Relations Committee as well as being Government Relations Liaison for the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board. Manny is a father of 2 young children and has been married since 2015. When he has free time, he loves to spend it with family and his hobbies include a good book or going to the gym.

Alex Rocco, Mission, Small Business Owner,
Born in Vancouver and raised in Maple Ridge, Alex has lived in Mission since 2012 after making the investment in his first home at the age of 24. He first entered the entrepreneurial arena in 2007 by establishing his first venture, Future Music Inc. Following, Alex enjoyed success as a placement writer and producer for artist worldwide, while offering his services as sound engineer at his recording studio Project Indie Studios. In 2013 Alex decided to expand on his experience as a club and event DJ and launched mobile entertainment company iDJ Services. Since then, he has opened two new ventures in the wedding and event industry to further diversify the group’s ability to provide for a variety of clients’ needs. Alex is a forward thinker who is passionate about helping people take the next big step in their lives. As a member of the Community Futures board Alex is excited to be able to help aspiring entrepreneurs in our community to achieve their goals. 
Lynn King, Mission, Commercial Lender,
Lynn has lived in Mission since 2001 and has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry with TD and now RBC. She has worked in in a variety of Senior Leadership, Branch Manager and Advisory roles within the Vancouver, Fraser Valley and Prince George areas; and currently holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a Designation in Personal Financial Planning among several other certificates and designations. In her personal time she is an avid skier and hiker, as well as traveling to foreign countries to experience new and different cultures.
Hannah Kuyek, Mission, Lawyer,
Hannah is an associate lawyer with RDM Lawyers LLP in Abbotsford, practicing in the areas of corporate, commercial lending, real estate, and wills & estate planning. Hannah grew up in Abbotsford and attended the University of British Columbia, where she studied Anthropology and Sociology. Following this, she moved to Ontario, where she obtained her law degree from the University of Windsor. She then returned to B.C., was called to the British Columbia Bar, and has been practicing in Abbotsford since. Hannah is proud to be serving the community she was raised in and strives to be an active participant both professionally and in her personal life, lending her time in various volunteer and community engagement capacities. Hannah is an avid traveller and in her free time can be found cooking, hiking, skiing, or diving.
Lindsay Algra, Mission, Wealth Consultant,
Lindsay grew up in Brookswood, was once a small community in Langley. Her love for small businesses started then, when you knew all the shop owners by name, and they knew you. She moved to Mission in 2002 with her husband when the community was much smaller and has enjoyed seeing the progression of this community. She has worked for Vancity Credit Union over 13 years and has been able to utilize her relationship building skills there in many roles from a front line teller, Mortgage Development Manager, Assistant Branch Manager and is currently the Wealth Consultant working with business’s East of the Fraser River. As a Board Member Lindsay is looking forward working with passionate entrepreneurs who also want to see Mission thrive and grow.
Janessa Derksen, Mission, Business Services,
Janessa has seven years of post-secondary education in Political Science, Communications, Marketing, Law, and Business. In addition to these years, Janessa is in the process of obtaining her Bachelor of Public Administration Degree from Thompson Rivers University. For previous work experience, she has five years in the restaurant industry with 2 years being in a senior management role of a well-established restaurant chain. Currently, she looks forward to assisting businesses to, grow, develop and connect as the Manager of Business Services with the Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce. Moving to Mission 22 years ago, she has developed a strong connection with the community north of the Fraser River, and is dedicated to volunteering in the beautiful place she is happy to call home. As a Director, Janessa is looking forward to understanding more about the support Community Futures North Fraser offers our local entrepreneurs and actively assist the local business community.
Dan Schubert, Mission, Business Owner,
Dan is a lifelong Mission resident who is committed to seeing Mission succeed. As a former owner of a medium sized mechanical firm, he has gained the experience of moving up through a company as it grew. He has experience in growing businesses organically and through acquisition. Serving on the Economic Development Committee as well as the Parks and Recreation Committee, he has shown his dedication to his community. Involved in investing locally in commercial and residential real estate as well as development, his latest venture was opening a bike shop in 2020. This vast business experience makes him a perfect fit to be a Director on Community Futures North Fraser Board. As father of 4 young children and married since 2009 you will often find him on a family hike or biking in the mountains of Mission.
Cal Crawford, Mission, District Councilor,
Mission Council Liaison

Cal and his wife lived in Mission for 30 years and have two adult children and three grandchildren. Cal started his working career as a grocery clerk and after 2 years he started an apprenticeship as an electrician. He received his Red Seal Electrician’s License and worked in the trade for 13 years. Cal then decided to pursue a long-held interest in real estate and subsequently earned his Real Estate license, which he eventually upgraded to an Agent’s License. He spent 37 years in the Real Estate profession and became well known for his expertise in ownership, management, training and sales. Cal retired from Real Estate on June 30, 2016. In 2018 he was elected Councillor in The District of Mission.

During his life, Cal has always been a strong believer in contributing to the community and likes to be involved at all levels. Since moving to Mission in 1989, Cal has volunteered with numerous groups: Not Limited but including Community Future North Fraser, Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce, Mission Mid-Day Rotary, Fraser Valley Real Estate Board, Mission Community Services & Mission Hospice Society.

Derek Hansom, Chilliwack, Recovery Advisor,
Rural Business and Community Recovery (RBCR) Program

In Partnership with Stó:lō Community Futures we are pleased to introduce Derek Hansom as part of the Rural Business and Community Recovery (RBCR) Program. Derek has spent the last 20 years working in nonprofit organizations. Several years of this was centered in engaging Aboriginal people and communities in restructuring child and family services. Derek also spent many years working with a delegated aboriginal agency in a variety of roles. Following the start of his MBA schooling in 2014, he joined Coast Educational Development and Research, allowing him to continue his passion to work and focus on individual and community development through education, training, and employment. Most recently, Derek worked with the Regional Chief of BC supporting the Economic Development portfolio on the policy team at BC Assembly of First Nations. His recent venture is a consulting company, Unceded Management Services, which offers a range of organizations and management support to clients. He is excited to work with SCF and CF North Fraser on this much needed role helping both indigenous and non-indigenous businesses in need.
